Say Hello To Hemp

ALL HAIL HEMP!
The grass is greener when it comes to Hemp we think! So after years of debating the legalities surrounding the topical use of this supergreen in India, we are excited to introduce Hemp in our skincare formulations!
Here is a lineup of our skincare collection that features Hemp and its stellar skin loving benefits as we look forward to adding it into more of our formulations.

HEMP IN AYURVEDA - ITS RELIGIOUS AND MEDICINAL SIGNIFICANCE
As a child, I remember drinking “thadal” - a grassy, sweet, almond milk drink prepared with freshly ground cannabis leaves, offered as an auspicious drink in honour of Lord Shiva during the festival of “holi” in India. Hemp has a long religious and medicinal history of use in Ayurveda.
One of the five sacred plants in the Vedas and used since around 2000 BCE in ancient India, it finds mention in ancient Ayurveda treatises like the Charaka, Sushruta, and Shargandhara Samhitas. The Ananda Kanda has a whole chapter dedicated to Hemp, its toxicity, the procedure for purification, cultivation, preparation, and use.

HEMP OIL AND CBD - SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT!
With the spotlight on Hemp and Cannabidiols (CBD) oil of late, learn more about why you need Hemp in your skincare and diet. While Hemp oil and CBD oil come from the same plant, Hemp oil comes from the seed of the Cannabis Sativa plant with less than 0.3% THC, (tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychotropic substance in cannabis).
CBD often also referred to as hemp extract, is an extractor strain with naturally occurring cannabinoids and comes from the leaves and stem of the Cannabis Sativa plant. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are the two primary cannabinoids that occur naturally in the Cannabis sativa plant. Both of these substances interact with the cannabinoid receptors found in our body and brain. CBD is non-psychoactive while THC is and therefore illegal and not allowed for use in skincare or diet.

CONSCIOUS BEAUTY AND SOCIAL INNOVATION
While at this time we source our Hemp Oil from one producer in India, it is my ardent hope and desire to set up Hemp units at source in the Himalayan belt, offering sustainable income for the marginalized and resource-poor communities in the remotest regions.
The Cannabis Sativa plant grows wild in the Himalayas and holds exciting possibilities for income generation and livelihoods support for the local communities if harvested and used as a value add product.
Over the years of my travels to the Himalayas from Kashmir to Kumaon, I have numerous times tried to open dialogue around engaging in hemp seed harvesting and extraction of the oil, in vain so far. I still remain optimistic and continue to engage with the NGOs and CBOs operating from the Himalayan belt to materialize this dream project :)
